Sergei Polunin has been called ”the bad boy of ballet” and ”the ballet’s very own James Dean,” and became the Royal Ballet’s youngest ever principal dancer at the age of 19. Two years later he quit and gave up dancing completely. What happened? Director Steven Cantor takes us back to Polunin’s childhood in Ukraine and home videos showing his enormous talent from the age of eight. The documentary continues in following the dancer’s life as he travels to UK, Russia, and the US.
Dancer realistically portrays a young man who is drawn into an adult lifestyle in which he meets extensive pressure and has to deal with the trauma of his parents' divorce. Cantor gives us insight to how success rarely is enough to find your own identity, all accompanied by breath-taking dance sequences.
