The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin
The American author and activist Armistead Maupin has been championed across the globe for his honest and inspiring novels, maybe especially for “Tales of the City.” Jennifer Kroot invites us to get insight into the life of the author, and his depiction of the queer community in San Francisco. The audience is taken on a journey that starts with Maupin’s strict and conservative upbringing, to his time as a marine soldier during the Vietnam War, before he in the mid 1970s came out as gay after discovering his “logical family” in the colorful community in San Francisco.
Through openhearted interviews with Sir Ian McKellen, Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis and Maupin himself, a brave portrait of a voice who helped millions to embrace their identity is formed.
