Retrospective: Go Fish
Max, played by Guinevere Turner, is struggling to find love. It has also been 10 months since she last had sex, something she is more than ready to do something about. When a friend tries to set her up with Ely, her interest is slightly peaked, but she can’t get over the fact that Ely is far from her type. The saying says that opposites attract, but the question is if Max is able to see past Ely’s unappealing hippie look?
Director Rose Troche is a guest at the festival, and we are therefore screening Go Fish, which in the time after its release in 1994 has become a queer classic. This charming indie is often referred to as one of the most important films of the New Queer Cinema movement. Not only is it a milestone for cinematic representations of lesbian women, but it is also an entertaining and insightful film about beginning adulthood.
