Desert Hearts
In connection with the 40th anniversary of this groundbreaking lesbian classic, director Donna Deitch has expressed a desire for her restored film to be shown at Oslo/Fusion - and who are we to say no?
It’s 1959. English professor Vivian moves to a ranch in Nevada to separate from her husband. There she meets Cay, a local casino worker. Cay quickly becomes interested in the reserved professor, and after a cautious start, a romance soon develops between the two.
As Deitch said: “There had never been a lesbian film made that didn't end in suicide or a bisexual love triangle. I just wanted to make a love story, in an honest and realistic way”.
A classic not to be missed!
