The Duke of Burgundy

United Kingdom – 2014

Cautious Evelyn arrives at a house and waits patiently outside the door. Cynthia is a cold and assertive employer, giving Evelyn stern instructions on her chores. Evelyn's every move is under scrutiny, and the tension in the room gradually reveals this is deeper than an employer / employee relation.

Evelyn is told to wash silk underwear, but when Cynthia discovers that one panty has been forgotten, Evelyn is taken into the bathroom to be punished - with a method that explains why Cynthia drinks so many glasses of water...

Peter Strickland's third feature is set in a timeless world consisting exclusively of women - all with an interest in entomology, the study of insects.

Oslo/Fusion’s 2015 opening film is an experience for all the senses, with stunning visuals and realistic depictions of emotional and sexual conflicts, perfectly accompanied by the music of Cat's Eyes. A must-see on the big screen.
