The Secret of Me

United Kingdom · United States – 2025

1995, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During a feminist studies class, a college student opens her textbook, turning her world upside down. For as long as she can remember, she's felt different – now she finally knows why. She was born intersex.

The story of Jim Ambrose is dark, revealing the extent of the damage that fraudulent medical studies that have led to systematic treatment errors have had on thousands of children born intersex.

As Jim delves into his own history and medical records, what he thought was a unique personal story, is actually a far-reaching medical scandal involving thousands of people. He has unwittingly participated in a colossal and deeply controversial psychological experiment with deep roots in time, and focusing on twins.

Grace Hughes-Hallett’s (producer of "Three Identical Strangers") film effectively illuminates the problems and effects of society's binary understanding of gender.
