Silence = Death

Short film program — 85 min.

A little over 44 years ago, in 1981, the world saw the first outbreak of AIDS. In 1983, the HIV virus was discovered and identified as the cause of AIDS.
In 2024, WHO estimates that 44.1 million people have died as a result of AIDS so far, and 91.4 million have been infected.
Western European countries and North America have made medicines widely available and the disease is more or less kept in check, but it is still in sub-Saharan Africa that the majority of new registered cases of infected people are discovered today.

In this program, we get to know a number of people who have come to know the same virus in different ways – and how they have experienced and fought against the effects and stigma surrounding a disease we still must talk about.
