City of Lost Souls (Berlin Blues)

In this wonderfully grotesque musical, the title of which directly translates to “City of Lost Souls”, we meet a group of transsexuals and transvestites, acrobats and drag artists from the United States who are trying to find their way in Berlin's turbulent scene. Praunheim goes all out in highlighting the pompous, vulgar and obscene - in addition to taking gender and gender identity more seriously and with a deeper understanding and respect for his characters than one would expect from filmmakers of the time. The whole film is one long highlight!

The film is introduced by a conversation between von Praunheims producer Christos XXX and director Lars Daniel Krutzkoff Jacobsen.
