Biography

Anna Margarita Albelo

Director and producer

2020 Spirit Award nominee Anna Margarita Albelo is an out, Cuban-American writer, director and producer working in film, television, and digital content. She spent the first 15 years of her career in Paris, France and was a regular collaborator for French network Canal Plus, writing and directing several broadcast documentaries and shorts on LGBT culture.
Her 2014 award winning feature, Who's Afraid of Vagina Wolf? (screened at this festival with Albelo and star Guinevere Turner presenting) was released theatrically in France, and her short film, "The Turkey" screened at the Cannes Film Festival 2008. She also served as a juror for the Cannes Film Festival Queer Palm Award in 2014 and is since 2019 their ambassador.
As a producer, Anna produced Madeleine Olnek's Wild Nights with Emily (2018), starring Molly Shannon, which was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award's John Cassavetes Award in 2020.  She also produced an 8-part series for Anthony Bourdain/The Perfect Dish Asia/CNN in 2017.
